• Sound more natural and fluent

Additive Connectors (Adding Information)
These connectors help you add more information.
Common ones:
• y → and
• e → and (used instead of y before words starting with “i” or “hi”)
• ni → nor / not even
• también → also / too
• además → moreover / besides
Examples:
• Estudio español y trabajo.
→ I study Spanish and I work.
• Habla inglés e italiano.
→ He speaks English and Italian.

→ He didn’t come nor did he call.

Contrast Connectors (Showing Opposition)
Used to show contrast or contradiction.
Common ones:
• pero → but
• sin embargo → however
• aunque → although / even though
• no obstante → nevertheless
• en cambio → on the other hand
Examples:
• Quería ir, pero estaba cansado.
→ I wanted to go, but I was tired.
• Estaba lloviendo; sin embargo, salimos.
→ It was raining; however, we went out.
• Aunque es difícil, lo intentaré.
→ Although it’s difficult, I’ll try.
Cause Connectors (Explaining Why)
Used to explain reasons or causes.
Common ones:
• porque → because
• ya que → since / because
• puesto que → given that
• a causa de → because of
• debido a → due to
Examples:
• No fui porque estaba enfermo.
→ I didn’t go because I was sick.
• Debido a la lluvia, se canceló el evento.
→ Due to the rain, the event was canceled.

Consequence Connectors (Showing Results)
Used to express results or consequences.
Common ones:
• así que → so
• por eso → that’s why
• por lo tanto → therefore
• entonces → then
Examples:

• No estudió, por eso desaprobó.
→ He didn’t study; that’s why he failed.
Time Connectors (Sequencing Ideas)
Used to organize events in time.
Common ones:
• cuando → when
• mientras → while
• antes de (que) → before
• después de (que) → after
• luego → then
• al final → finally
Examples:
• Cuando llegué, él ya se había ido.
→ When I arrived, he had already left.
• Estudié y luego salí.

Purpose Connectors (Expressing Intent)
Used to express purpose or intention.
Common ones:
• para → in order to / for
• para que → so that
• a fin de (que) → in order to

• mejor dicho → rather

• primero → first
• luego → then
• por último → finally
• por un lado / por otro lado → on one hand / on the other hand
